Plumeria Seeds

Question
Hello, A friend gave me a seed pod from his plumeria plant. I am unsure how old the pod is but he said it had been on it "for a while". I read numerous replies from you experts saying to let the pod ripen and split. Is there any chance this pod might have been close to spliting and the seds might be viable after it dries out? Is it worth messing with? It is about 10 inches long and dark red. I tried finding an answer to this on your site before posting... thanks for your time and info.

Answer
It will need to have been on the tree for approximately nine months.   You will know if it is about to open, because there will be an inwards-facing fold on one side of the seed pod, which happens just prior to the pod opening.   My first pods start opening in late October, and contue through to March, so it is possible that your pod could be near to opening.   I would find a warm spot indoors, perhaps a window sill where a window gets a fair bit of sunlight, and leave it there for a few weeks to continue drying, before breaking open the pod.

Kind regards
Paula Pugh Schipp
